Pony Express May 2010

In December Marcos parents and his sister with her boyfriend came to the Red Willow Ranch. Nobody knew anything and the surprise was a raving success. They stayed at the ranch over Christmas and New Year and we enjoyed the holydays in the “Canadian Snow” all together. It was a nice time. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough snow that year but the horses enjoyed the mild the winter.

In February the Olympic Games took place in Canada and the Olympic torch was carried through Lone Butte. Furthermore the Red Willow Ranch was the ‘Gold Sponsor” at the BC Street. That street was designed to showcase the business and tourism opportunities of seven major BC regions including the Cariboo. The Red Willow Ranch was one ambassador of Cariboo. Our pavilion highlighted eco-tourism and wilderness adventures, agriculture, First Nations, major forest industries , forest products, and the cowboy culture of our region. That was a raving success and the atmosphere in the pavilion was great.

Unfortunately we had to say a last good -bye to Princess and Shylow. They broke through the ice in the Creek. We dug a grave for both of them where they rest in peace with a view onto the lake and the wonderful landscape of Cariboo – a home country for them that is as beautiful as incalculable. That loss hit us all badly and we still can’t believe what happened. We grieve for two loyal friends and companions.

As well we had to say goodbye to Ulrike and Craig who are back in Manchester with their son Cadhlar. Unfortunately they couldn’t stay longer in Canada with us. But we look forward to the next visit.

This year we have no foals at the ranch, but we watch with delight the growing up of our two yearlings Peppels and Jewels. Both enjoy an excellent health. Today a calf was born , totally black and already jumping around.

This year we have to build new fences and the ones which are broken we have to repair. In the last months there were a few storms that rooted out a lot of trees which destroyed the fences Never ending work!! But we look forward to the next season with lots of nice helpers and guests. In addition we look forward to the one week-long “Horse trainer-Course” in June with Uwe Jourdain. (27.06.10-07.07.10)
Take care till our trails will cross again
